DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
This gym while the equipment is decent (at best), the staff and the organization itself is ridiculous. Initially I joined this gym because I was living downtown Memphis, and to keep the story short I moved and they will not allow me to discontinue my membership because I have not moved 25 miles away from the gym location. Had I known I was moving of course I would never have joined the gym, but my advice to anyone on the fence about joining this *** hole would be to strongly consider other options, Lifetime, even snap fitness would be a much wiser decision.

In 2-3 months they haven't fixed their basketball goal leading to a crowded court and not many people getting to play, consistently keep saying it'll be fixed next week, charges $15 a guest to play on one side of a crowded court.

Well Worx = Unethical Business

Do not at any expense join the club = service does equal their need of your funds. They did not allow me to cancel when I realized the scam they run, now I had to get an attorney for mitigation, law suit. This situation has cost me and my family money to pay an attorney for a gym member ship contract, which was not worth the paper it was written on. Please at all cost do yourself a favor and do go near this place. I repeat DO NOT GET FOOLED!!!I repeat DO NOT GET FOOLED!!!I repeat DO NOT GET FOOLED!!!I repeat DO NOT GET FOOLED!!!

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH WELLWORX... they make it extra hard to quit

We paid for our memberships up front for a whole year. We ended up moving away 6 months into it (JOB TRANSFER) and had to forfeit all the $$$ we had paid upfront. THEY DO NOT OFFER REFUNDS! In fact their contract even states that they will not refund money even in the event that they cease to do business! It gets worse... so after moving away I didn't really spend my days thinking about the contract I had signed a year earlier. Turns out they will automatically continue to charge me at a higher rate come the end of my contract (February 2012). So I send my certified letter to cancel in January after receiving a notice that they would begin charging me again in February. Then I get a call (from Wellworx) saying that I MUST PAY FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY in order to cancel my contract...... Its still January! OK, they didn't get 30 days notice... so what. Wave the fee.... put the membership on hold for 30 days until the cancellation can be processed.... Offer something. But no I am told " IT WOULD BE BREAKING THE LAW TO WAVE THE CHARGES FOR FEBRUARY AND THEY CANT BREAK THE LAW!!! As if the police would show up and arrest somebody at Wellworx for not screwing me and my boyfriend out of another months dues. Not all gyms are like this... I had a great experience with Bally's. After Bally's received our notice they refunded our dues for the two months since we had moved away. I didn't even expect a refund because we were on a month to month contract with them. My advice- SIGN UP WITH A LARGER FRANCHISE GYM THAT IS NOT SO HARD UP FOR CASH. Larger gyms often put CUSTOMER SERVICE first rather then $$$. Also, Notice all the reviews have pretty much the same complaint.... I'd be willing to bet they won't be in business for long. THE REASON I SIGNED UP WITH THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS BECAUSE THEY ARE NEVER BUSY... I NEVER HAD TO WAIT TO USE THE EQUIPMENT. NOW I KNOW WHY!

WELLWORX is a rip off...

ANYONE that gets a membership from this place should have their head examined..More than 4 years ago I bought a 1 year membership, paid cash, didn't want to renew, never went back and never used the facility after my membership expired..They have tried to tell me I still owe an unpaid balance for the last 4 years...They threaten legal action, damaging my credit rating and continue to harass me for payment OR SETTLEMENT...Yeah Tina Graham says if I just pay something, they will leave me alone..I love telling everyone I know to NEVER JOIN THIS FACILITY...NEVER JOIN WELLWORX...THEY WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF FOR MORE MONEY AFTER YOUR MEMBERSHIP IS OVER..SHAMELESS EXCUSE FOR A BUSINESS ANDTHEIR TACTICS SHOULD BE CRIMINAL

WellWorx is a rip off. WellWorx only cares about money.

They are price gougers. In order to use their facilities, they will charge $25 for one day.

This is ridiculous. No other gym is this hard-up for cash.

Guest

I got burned once, joined for a year and they auto renew. After a few years went back.

Paid cash, told them I did not want to auto renew. Guess What. Told the office that I had joined, paid cash and did not want it to renew. The woman in the office said, "they" the people who signed me up, could not do that.

Sorry, pay us the extra month, and a month for the 30 day notice.

Wellworx refuses to accept cancellation

After my one year contract was over, I agreed to continue on a month to month basis. Over a year ago, I stopped and the management was told. They refuse to accept the resignation, claiming that I signed for another year. These people are not to be trusted. On three different occasions, Wellworx personnel have called attempting to get me to admit that I owe money. On all three occasions they have been informed that I have quit. Each time they refuse to accept this, insisting that I have to pay for an entire year. The situation is absurd. Do not join.

Wellworx is a good club

I have been a member since 2004 and I am putting info of my good experiences with Wellworx so people know that the club has a great staff and so much variety. I have always paid my bill so I don't know how their collections department is. They offer rehabilitation for injuries and the trainers have always answered questions I have had without chargin me for a session. These reviews are unfair and tell only one side fo the story. Their cancellation process is simple. Send a certified letter and it is done. That way someone else can't call and cancel your membership. Not the most convenient way, but it protects me. They have racquetball and basketball and warm water classes. They have lap pool and have just redone the entire pool area.

Please, we are expected to believe you are defending this clubs practices out of the goodness of your heart. I have never heard of cancellation policy such at theres.

When you go in person hand them a letter why would you ever need to send a certified letter. I have belonged to at least 7 gym in the past 12 years and have never once had an issue. Yet this company has the worse BBB rating I have ever seen. Clearly they are not a fair or rebutable business.

I would suggest understanding the issues than giving a advertisment for the gym. This is assuming you are in fact a legitimate consumer and not someone paid by Wellworx.

They are also rude. Some woman made a cold call to our office asking all kinds of questions.

Got rude and used vulgar language when I did not want to give a stranger information. If that is how they do business they certainly deserve a very bad BBB rating.

Wellworx in Memphis will rip you off at end of contract

Do not sign a membership contract with wellworx, memphis TN!!! At the end of your contract period they automatically signed me up on a month to month basis and charged me almost the yearly fee for each month. I called to ask what the charges were and was told before they would negotiate, I would have to have a zero balance - in other words, pay the rip off rates they had billed me for. They offered to knock off the late charges fees they have also billed me for. I told them I would not pay the exorbitant rates ($125.97 per MONTH they charged me), and would refer this to my attorney. Wellworx responded for me to "please go ahead". Customer service DOES NOT EXIST at Wellworx, Memphis, TN.

I can not say it enough Wellworx is a very unethical and under the unclean hands dipositions they will easy lose in court. The company use use illegal tactics to gain monetary profit from innocent citizens, which caused a name change and the appearance of corperation.

They have falony employee working in the accounting department, that is will be bought to public doing the civil trial that is in the working. Please supply any reason, with honesty of your experiencing their illegal tactics using scams of indecent lawyers working for $ not the U.S. Legal system.

I am really sad to say as a minister and educator that Americans have this type immoral unethical, criminal behavior going on daily, within a facility that need to be made known to the public. I am in the process of getting evidence collected to process a civil suit to have all the victims of these criminals brough court to pay their debts to society.

Oh and those reoccurring initiation fees?!?! You shouldn't be forced to automatically renew your contract in order to avoid more initiation fees!

If you have been with a gym and they have you in their system and you already paid $100 when you first signed up then why the *** should you be charged an initiation fee AGAIN. JUST MORE WELLWORX BS!!

There membership office is very unprofessional.

I was screamed at by TINA! Wellworx is hood..lol

I am blasting this site with good comments, because I like WellWorx. They have real people who have been fat and know how to lose weight.

Not all 25 year olds that think they are in a contest. IF St.

Jude and Methodist Hospital trust them with their Wellness programs they must be good. They have been for me!

Guest

I have a contract with WellWorX and one of the things I love about it is the automatice rollover. That way if I forget to renew my contract instead of it canceling and me having to pay all those initiation fees again it just rolls over and I can renew when I want to. The rollover policy is clearly written on the front page and you have to initial it when you join so only an *** or possibly someone who can't read can say they didn't know it was going to go to month to month payments.

Wellworx of Memphis

When Wellworx was 6-50 fitness, I tried them, supposedly on a "trial basis". I was told that if I could not use their facilities I could quit. I went twice and had difficulty getting into and out of the pool, so I quit paid my one month and thought that was it. Then next month I got another draft to my account from them, so I called and was told I had to quit in writing, so I sent a letter. I did so, then next month, another draft went through. So I called my bank and had them block the drafts. At the time the way they did this was to block the amount of the draft (ie., 36.27 or whatever). So, next month I get TWO drafts, one for 20 and one for 16.37 (these are not the exact amounts, this was back around 2000. Well I had to close that account and open a new one because they would start sending drafts through for anywhere between 1 dollar to a couple of hundred to get their money (or what they thought was theirs). Well recently I have been getting bills from them and harassing phone calls with them threatening to take my car and my house (I do not have a house..) and they say that the total is now 3949 dollars. Wellworx bought out 650 by the way. They have an "F" rating with the BBC with no less than 27 complaints filed against them.

Par for the course. I was told I had to send a "certified letter" to cancel my membership -- Total BS.

They also raise the rates as soon as you go month to month. The reason my family will no longer wants to go is because the upkeep is terrible. Wellworx pools are NASTY. They are not cleaned, maintained and they are in need of resurfacing.

Also during the summer - forget taking your kids or getting a peaceful workout because they allow schools and daycares to use the facilities and the pools. You may pull in one day and see school buses in the parking lot and screaming kids everywhere. The staff post a list of activities which will prohibit use by other members during the activity, however these times change you may show up and not be able to do what you were planning. Furthermore, the STAFF IS ARROGANT and the GENERAL MANAGER is NO HELP.

He said send him an email and he would correct the problems and do something special for us. What did he do? --- nothing --- not even a response.

When I finally spoke to someone honest at the facility, they said they are constantly getting complaints. Don't be fooled -- find yourself a better place.

Don't Join WellworX

Do not join this club!!! They look like a good club and they advertise a lot promoting their club. However, beware... once you join you will never be able to stop your membership. Been trying for over two years to get them to stop billing me for a membership that was appropriately cancelled with proper notification and NO pending contract stipulations. THIS IS NOT A ISOLATED CASE...it is happening to a number of people that have cancelled their membership with the club. Tried to rectify...however, they will not return calls and will not respond to any attempts to try to resolve the issue...they just keep the bills coming with collection threats. Even went to the club in person and they would not let me see the individual responsible for this. Was told I would have to leave a message and they would get back to me. Never Happened !! I had a pre-paid membership that expired in September 2008. I chose not to renew.

WellWorx contintued to bill me monthly fees higher than I initially paid and have put me in collections. I had no intention of renewing until 2010.

They claim to have sent me a postcard. Ha!

WellWorx - Read Before you Join-Don't Be Sorry!

Past member that will tell you that you can find much better gyms than WellworX Sporting Health Club. WellworX looks good; however, the management at WellWorx Sporting Health Club has a lot to be desired. Tried to get issues rectified with my membership at WellWorX and they just refused to listen or respond..tried to get WellWorX Sporting Health Club to resolve by contacting the Better Business Bureau and WellWorX Sporting and Health Club just said so what! Look at the other complaints on this board about them and just google WellWorx, WellWorx Health Club or WellWorx Sporting and read other reviews and you will see a clear pattern. Do your research and make sure you read all the fine print in the contract you sign. Don't waste your money, go to a good club. There are plenty out there.

WellWorX-Unsatisfactory with The BBB

I saw another posting with this site on WellWorX in Memphis. I had similiar problems with them and it took getting a lawyer to get them to stop billing me and finally close my account as I requested. I actually enjoyed the club while I was there, although there were times that things went down a bit and services were inconsistent. All in all there are too many clubs to choose from and the experience I had with them has left a bad taste in my mouth...my situation was simple and it seemed that they were determined to push a situation that did not make since to me. I would not recommend them !!

If you have a "real" problem with your account, with the contract that you signed or with old account issues with WellWorX Sportsplex on 6161 Shelby Oaks Drive, it is currently under new management and there may be new options available for you. I looked through the list of names here but it seems that many are either using false names or no name.

If you actually want someone to take a look at your account and offer ways to get it resolved you can email contact@***.com or you can call 901-507-**** and leave a voice mail. Be sure to leave your actual name because without that your account can't be researched.

They have an A+ rating with the BBB you may want to explore "real" sources of info about the business other than anonymous comments by people who may or may not have ever been inside the club.... just sayin

Guest

To anyone and everyone accusing people of not reading you are completely out of line. I sign up for two memberships to Wellworx and I paid for both completely up front!

850+ dollars. I didn't attend the gym for the finally 4 months of the first year. Then I began recieving letters from them. When I finally opened them after a couple months I was shocked to find they were saying I owed them hundreds of dollars.

When I called and talked with them, they were completely rude and inconsiderate, and stated that had I been paying month to month this would not be an issue because I would have recieved a notice to cancel. But, since I had paid up front I never got this notice. Now I sent the cancellation notice in and I am still receiving bills, now upwards of 1200 dollars. When I talk with them they say they will settle with me for 400 something dollars.

I'm sorry but I refuse to pay them for services I never received. The lady I talked with agreed with me that what they were doing was wrong and still refuse to void my balance. Basically I'm being penalized for paying them for two memberships up front instead of going month to month.

This tactic is completely unethical and a scam. If anyone can help me please contact me at Stevemfn0@***.com

Guest

I agree completely . January 2012 and still the same issues. Poor service and don't care about customers!

Guest

8) most people don't take gym/fitness center contracts seriously until they have an issue with them. this facility like many others has a few simple steps you need to take to cancel your membership and if they aren't followed the charges will be continued to be drafted from your account or billed for.

Read the fine print and yes a debt to a gym can affect your credit rating. know what you are getting into, go to the gym if you commit to if, if not you're wasting your money.

Guest

We joined after the holidays. We were told we were given two different discounts, but later found we were charged more than what another family was quoted, with no discounts.

The charged us for their mistake and no complaint has been resolved. Their rates are not posted anywhere for a reason. The business office is run like a used car dealership. This place is definitely unethical!

The childrens area is a tiny room in the back of the gym that reaks of bleach.

The activities scheduled for the children do not happen. Do not join!!!!!!!!!!

Guest

:cry LOL cry me a river and learn to read. I have no pity whatsoever for anyone who can't read a simple contract and I've seen WellWorX and the contract is very simple.

The cancel policy is in a normal font right above where you signed so follow the instructions when you cancel and you'll have no trouble. I didn't have any trouble at all canceling. Of course if you can't read or maybe if you owed them a ton of cash you would of course have a problem.

Pay what you owe and read what you sign. Personal accountability is all you need.

Guest

Man...this is so funny...seems that they have this thing down to a science...look know it's the season to join a gym....don't join this one !! You'll be SORRY !!!

Guest

Same issue that is being reported with cancelling membership, took me several attempts to get someone on the phone who told me about the ridiculous cancellation policy. Will never go back and will probably submit a complaint to BBB in my spare time. WellWorx SUCKS!

WellWorX Sports Health Club - Worst Club in Memphis

WellworX Sports Health Club - Don't be their next sucker ! After two months of attempting to contact someone at WellWorX concerning this matter, I appreciate “any” response from WellWorX. However, WellWorx Sports Club's resolution of this matter dated 02/10/06 is not acceptable. Without getting into a “he said/she said” debate, the facts of this situation are as follows. At the time I was transferred to Atlanta I asked a WellWorX’s employee what I needed to do to terminate my membership at WellWorX. I followed the WellWorX employee's instructions and the WellWorX employee accepted my termination letter (dated 03/12/05 not “March 03” as your response indicates) and she stated that WellWorX “would take care of it”. The fact that WellWorX Health Club does not have a copy of this letter in your files is no concern to me. I will not be held responsible for what happened to the letter once the WellWorX employee took possession of such letter on or about 03/12/05........... Keep coming back this letter and additional posting will appear everytime I receive another WellWorX bill.... DO NOT JOIN THIS CLUB !!!!!

Trust me nothing has changed after three 5 years, I am still fighting them. First they waited 2 years to tell me I had not been paying for services I no longer used.

Then after filing with BBB they waited almost 3 years to respond now claim I owe them 5k.

My guess is will have to get a lawyer. Wondering if we have enough folks on here to have a class action?

Guest

Been mamber since 2004. Improvements are being made consistently.

This club has been around since 1972, so they are doing something right. Free group classes, warm water exercise pool, racquetball, basketball.

I have lived in many other citites and some clubs are newer, but I've never paid less than $100 month. People here want it all for nothing.

Guest

No problems for me. I've been member since 2004 and no other club in the area has as much stuff.

Free group classes, a warm water pool, racquetball, basketball, tennis. new staff here may make the difference and changes to fix old problems, but I haven't had any.

Guest

I agree with this...terrible club!
